” When you try to be all things to all people, you end up being nothing “
– Al Reis
Firstly, you need to decide who your target market is. As the quote above suggests, if you set your sights too broad in order to be all things to all men, then you are destined to fail. Every small business needs to decide on a specific target market, a niche on which to focus its efforts in order to deliver a product or service that the customer wants and is willing to pay for.
By having a specific target market you can channel your marketing activities, and in particular your marketing message, towards this audience. This will drastically improve the responses you get because your audience will feel as though you are speaking to them directly through your marketing material and for that they will reward you.
